“Tsawwassen First Nation / Vancouver Port Authority Agreement”

NorthWest Indian News takes an ‘in depth’ look at the 47 million dollar agreement between the Tsawwassen First Nation(TFN) of Delta, British Columbia and the Vancouver Port Authority. The agreement settles long standing legal issues over environmental impacts to the fishing grounds caused by the development of the Deltaport Shipping Terminal and includes TFN as a partner in the proposed one billion dollar expansion of Deltaport.
“Klickitat River Hatchery.”

The Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife plans to turn over operations on the Klickitat hatchery to the Yakama Nation in the spring of 2005. The proven successes and track record of the Yakama Nation Fisheries will be needed as the aging Klickitat Hatchery undergoes modernization. The primary objective will be to restore salmon stocks to the upper Klickitat River. A tunnel is being dug to help returning salmon get around the treacherous Castile Falls on the upper Klickitat.
“Problem Gambling”

The week of March 5th is national Problem Gamblers Awareness Week. The Washington State Council On Problem Gambling is spearheading an effort for fundraising and public awareness. The Tribes in the state have given more than $650,000.00 to problem gambling treatment programs in 2005. NWIN helps viewers find out how they may help a friend with a gambling problem.
“The Medicine Wheel Society”

The Medicine Wheel Society of the University of Washington is dedicated to Native health care and advances in Native medicine. NWIN attends a fund raising event and visits with Native medical students at the UW.
“Around Indian Country”

NWIN takes a look at the Duwamish archaeological dig near Tukwila, Washington, joins Chinook Tribal members as they put the finishing touches on an authentic replica of a cedar plankhouse near the site where Lewis and Clark stayed with the Cathlapotle people in 1805 and visits with the youth of Yakama Nation who are preparing for the ‘Relay on the Rez’ event to raise money for the American Cancer Society in June.
