Viewers are invited into glimpses of the musical drama, “The Ghosts of Celilo.” The play seen by sold-out crowds in Portland, recounts the story of when the Celilo Falls were silenced 50 years ago by the damming of the Columbia River at the Dalles.
“Makah Whaling” Jason Roberts, reporter
Jason Roberts reports on the important role whaling plays in the coastal tribe’s history and culture. It’s the only tribe in the world with a treaty that specifically includes the right to hunt whales. Right now, the issue of the non-sanctioned killing of a gray whale in September by five Makah tribal members is headed to the courts.

More than 60 tribal high school students attended a recent Native Youth Leadership Summit at Western Washington University in Bellingham. Deborah Parker reports it was the first visit for many to a college campus. Students were involved in workshops discussing education goals, tribal sovereignty and treaty rights.
